The international airport is called Ambouli,
just to the south eats of the city. Many flights require a change or stopover at Sana’a in the
Yemen, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) or Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, although a new airline has recently
started direct flights from London and Paris. Car hire is
relatively expensive in Djibouti.
Djibouti is a land of compromise,
politically stable in a region which has many political conflicts. It has many unique natural
features to offer the intrepid tourist who likes something different. Exquisite diving, desert
safaris and cool forest parks in the hills, Djibouti has in spades. Do be prepared to take the bad
with the good though – this is a third world country.
